Armenian-American Artist Mary Zakarian
"I am a subjective painter. My inner feelings dominate my work and my main concern is to
give expression to my own emotions. It doesn't matter if I'm painting a still life,
a landscape, a portrait, or a life study. Subject matter is not the main concern.
It is used as a means to an end. My subjects are important to the extent that they represent
line, form, and color....the three necessary mediums for expression. I have to use the
things I see to paint what I feel. A painting must breathe with the breath of the
person who created it."
